Have you ever been in love?

It was a question often asked of her. Not that she didn’t look it. But rather, she often wore a faraway look that begged for it.

She used to think yes (despite herself). Yes, to the curly haired boy with the softest brown eyes. Yes, to his cocky swagger and his dirty humor she says she detests (but laughs at anyway). Yes to his sandpaper hands and his wrinkle of a smile. But try as she may, these are the only things she remembers of him.

Memory has betrayed her once more, making her rethink if she has ever been in love at all.
